Changes Are Coming to the BACB’s RBT Certification Requirements!

Important updates are on the way for anyone pursuing or supporting Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) certification. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) has announced new requirements that will take effect January 1, 2026, and these changes impact training, exam eligibility, competency assessment, and recertification.

How Hi Rasmus’ AI Helps Clinicians Work Smarter, Not Harder

For many BCBAs and RBTs, session notes are among the most time-consuming—and essential—parts of documenting quality ABA services. Between back-to-back sessions, data collection, and client transitions, finding the time to write detailed, accurate session notes can feel nearly impossible. That’s where Hi Rasmus’ AI session note tool comes in. Explicitly designed for ABA providers, this tool utilizes real session data to help clinicians complete notes more efficiently — without compromising accuracy or compliance.

Interval Recording in ABA

Interval recording is a data-collection method used in ABA to measure behaviors that occur frequently or for extended periods. The observer divides a session, or observation period, into equal time intervals (e.g., 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute) and records whether the target behavior occurred during each interval.

Beginning January 1, 2026, changes will be implemented in the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) recertification process. In an effort to streamline and professionalize ongoing training, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) will replace the annual competency assessment with a new requirement: 12 hours of professional development (PDUs) to be completed every two years.
